Reverse: Crudely engraved image of castle; OBS - "money of necessity" vertically to the left, P C - "Pontefract Castle" either side of the central tower and 1648 below.

These pieces were hand-made from silver plates and the like, while the castle was under heavy siege. Struck during the period of June 1648 to March 1649, after the recapture and imprisonment of Charles I.
