Pickle Herring Stairs, Edward Brent 1668 halfpenny hammered edge

Obv: EDWARD BRENT HIS.HALF PENNY(cinquefoil) 1668 , in five lines.
Rev: Sailing boat.
M. Dickinson 340. Everson 775. Dies as Norweb 4995.

Another example with "edged knocked up". This feature of a hammered-up edge appears on a few tokens and probably occurred when they went out of use and were being re-used as a weight or a shove ha'penny. The raised rim often has the side effect of preserving the design from further wear and tear. T. Everson, Seventeenth Century Trading Tokens Of Surrey And Southwark. page 88, 775.

I very much doubt this example was used for shove ha'penny.
