Charles II, 1666 guinea head shilling

Obverse: CARLOVS.II. DEI.GRATIA ; guinea bust of Charles II right, no drapery, elephant below.
Reverse: 66.MAG. BR.FRA. ET.HIB. REX.16 ; crowned cruciform shields, interlinked C's in angles.
Edge: Milled.
Very attractive light cabinet tone.
S 3374. ESC 1027. Bull 509, R4.

This is the finest example we have been able to trace to date; we would love to hear from you if you know of a finer specimen.

The elephant is the badge of the "Royal Company of Adventurers" founded by the Duke of York in 1662.
