This was communicated by William Sheardown, Esq., of Doncaster. He says:"It was found at Bentley, in which parish half the bridge is situate; probably the toll-gate was on the Bentley side."It interesting being issued by a tollman; only two other examples are known. See Stilton and Nottingham. Turnpikes were established about this period.
