L. Howson & Son Borough Tea Warehouse unofficial farthing:
Obv: VICTORIA QUEEN OF GREAT BRITAIN , bust of Queen Victoria facing left.
Rev: W. HOWSON & SON BOROUGH TEA WAREHOUSE NEWCASTLE , in five lines, the first two and the last two being curved.
Edge: Plain. Diameter: 22.5mm.
William Howson is given in a directory of 1836 as a grocer at 17 High Street. By 1851 William Howson & Son were at 14 High Street, and by 1855 they occupied 15 High Street as well. The firm was still in these premises in 1868 (Hawkins).
