Roman Republic, Mn Aemilius Lepidus denarius 114/3 BC

Obverse: Laureate and diadem head of Roma right, XVI monogram behind ROMA before (MA in monogram).
Reverse: MN AEMILIO (MN in monogram), equestrian statue right, the horseman holding a spear, on base formed by triple-arch containing L E P.

The triple-arch has been interpreted as representing either an aqueduct, possibly the Aqua Marcia, or a triumphal arch erected in honer of an ancester.
