This an electrotype.
A goat's head erased was the unauthorized crest of the borough of Gateshead before 1932 Scott-Giles, p. 117; Fox-Davies, p. 306-7; Lewis, ii. 280); it was used as arms on the 1666 Vestry chair (illustrated by Carter).
