Uncertain location, Blyth, Sarah Thomas halfpenny
Obv: (mullet)SARAH.THOMAS.HIR.HALPENY , around beaded inner circle, oak tree.
Rev: (mullet)GOD.SAVE.THE.KING , around beaded inner circle, bust of Charles II left.
Flan bent.
Ex D Griffiths.
M Dickinson, Wales 91B. Boon 129a.
First attributed to Wales by Peter Seaby and George Boon. Presently attributed to Yorkshire due to this example being found at Blyth Nottinghamshire and in more recent times one other example being found in the Nottinghamshire/Yorkshire vicinity. A Sarah Thomas has been located in those parts of the hearth tax records published by the Ripon Historical Society as resident in Halifax in 1672. Worthy of more research.
Addendum: I have been contacted by a collector whom has an example of this token in his collection.
The example that he has was purchased several years ago from a detectorist who found it in Blyth Nottinghamshire, hence this token being listed here.
Due to present attribution this token is also listed under Halifax Yorkshire.
