The Palsgrave has been identified since Akerman 1847 as Frederick V (1596-1632), count palatine or Palsgrave, although in 1619 he became king of Bohemia and was so named on 17th century signs (Lillywhite 1972, nos. 9279-80); probably here his son Charles Lewis (1618-1680, elector palatine), who in England became a sort of Protestant mascot (ODNB); he was named in a 1642 Declaration and Petition of the Palsgrave and the Queene his mother, i.e. Elizabeth, queen of Bohemia. (Norweb Sylloge, N 9012).
