Charles I Bridgnorth-on-Severn late declaration 1646 threepence

Obverse: (plume)CAROLVS.D:G:MAG:BR:FR:ET.HIB:REX - Charles by the grace of God King of Britain France and Ireland , around beaded inner circle ; bust of Charles I, value III behind and plumelet in front.
Reverse: EXVRGAT.DEVS.DISSIPENTVR.INIMICI. - Let God arise and his enemies be scattered ; REL:PRO: LEG:AN: LIB:PA: - The religion of the Protestants the laws of England the liberty of Parliament, in three lines, one plumelet and two scrolls above declaration, 1646 below.
Weight: 1.51 grams. Max. diameter: 20.28mm.

Obverse double struck and a tad off centre, reverse well centred, on a full flan with an attractive cabinet tone.

Bridgnorth-on-Severn held out as a Royalist garrison until April 26, 1646.
It is likely that these smaller denominations were used as Royalist badges, as many are found to be pierced, perhaps being sewn into their tunic.
